How Ronaldo Left Manchester
The Portuguese star had no qualms about telling his Manchester United teammates in 2009 that he intended to quit Old Trafford and join Real Madrid in his career.
The former Manchester United colleague of Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, tells Sports Illustrated that this is the case.
“We would remain after training to do competitions and they [Anderson and Ronaldo] were my teammates,” Nani noted when revealing the course of events on Manchester United’s official podcast. “Everyone has best friends or some they feel more comfortable with,” Nani explained.
When he stayed here for six or seven years, Ronaldo said, ‘I think it is time for me to leave.'” That was something he mentioned more than once.
Real Madrid’s transfer to the Bernabe was expected, but we never expected it to happen so quickly. The second year he departed, he had a tremendous season, so we were still astonished.”
It was Sir Alex Ferguson who became aware of the situation, and he wrote about it in his memoirs. Ronaldo lasted at Manchester United for another season before he left for Real Madrid.
Asked by Ferguson, “Do you know why Real Madrid paid £80 million in cash for him?” Florentino Perez, Real Madrid’s president, used it as a method to proclaim to the world, “We are Real Madrid, and we are the best.”
It was previously claimed that Cristiano will one day play for Real Madrid by Perez’s predecessor, Ramon Calderon.” At Carlos Queiroz’s Portugal home, I found the child eager to join Real Madrid, and I told him: ‘You can’t go this year, not after the way Calderon has handled this matter’.
So, I told him that I would rather shoot him than sell him for Real Madrid right now.'” In the event that someone gives you a record-breaking sum of money for your performance, we reserve the right to release you.’
“I did a good job of calming him down,” I tell myself. I explained to him that Calderon was the reason I was unable to sell him that year.
“I said: ‘If I do that, my honour’s gone, everything’s gone for me, and I don’t care if you have to sit in the stands. As much as I hope it doesn’t come to that, ‘I will not let you go this year.'”
